Matt Sesow

Matt Sesow is a self-taught American painter based in Washington, D.C., renowned for his bold, emotionally charged, and politically resonant artworks. Since 1994, Matt has created over 17,000 original pieces, each reflecting his unique perspective and unyielding passion for art.

A Journey from Trauma to Triumph

Born in Nebraska in 1966, Matt’s life took a dramatic turn at age 8 when he lost his left hand in an airplane accident. This life-altering event became a wellspring of inspiration, fueling a creative journey that began in 1994 while he was working as a software engineer at IBM. Painting started as a therapeutic outlet and quickly evolved into a full-time vocation by 2001.

Artistic Style and Themes

Matt’s art is characterized by vivid colors, expressive lines, and recurring motifs such as bulls, birds, and symbolic figures. His work delves into themes of personal trauma, societal issues, and the human condition, often infused with a raw, unfiltered energy that challenges and engages viewers.
